– The March 10 is World Kidney Day, promoted by Italy Fir (Italian Kidney Foundation) and Sin ( Italian society of nephrology). It is estimated that worldwide one in ten people suffer from disorders and kidney disease, and the trend continues unabated. The 2016 edition aim is to promote the prevention and early detection through a set of guidelines developed by doctors and experts. More than 160 initiatives were organized in several Italian cities, from free visits to the information campaign.
The initiatives – Squares, schools and hospitals will host volunteers and experts of Fir engaged in the project Camper and Project Schools: passersby and students will undergo the control of blood pressure and urinalysis, at no cost. It will be distributed educational material and information. Open Doors instead in health facilities that have joined the initiative to consult with specialists and screening.
Focus on Children – Few know that kidney disease can manifest itself since the early days of life. “The kidneys play a silent but very important work for the purification of our body: take care, therefore, is essential,” explained Alessandro Balducci, president of Fir. “A simple urine test and measuring creatinine in the blood are the first step in diagnosing a disease: identify a renal dysfunction in early stage can be useful to prevent the evolution and complications.”
