Been pulling an all-nighter, working too hard or just finding it difficult to sleep? Today you have that important meeting at work and you are already flagging by 10 am.  Believe it or not, what you eat can a have a massive effect on your performance at work and day-to-day life.  As March will see the clocks spring forward and the days starting to get longer, it’s the perfect opportunity to come out of winter hibernation, eat better and feel great.

Eating healthier can help boost your energy levels and these top 5 super foods have been found to help do just that:

Oily Fish

Salmon is one of my favourite fishes to eat and it’s packed full of omega-3 fatty acids and protein which means that it’s a great at increasing alertness and concentration.

Avocado

Yum! A creamy avocado makes the best guacamole and I love it on top of my healthy Chocolate and Jalapeno Turkey Chilli.  The residing healthy fats mean that they are very filling, which maintains blood sugar levels allowing you to focus on your work.

Dark Chocolate

Hurrah!  Chocolate is actually good for you and has a health benefit! This can be said for dark chocolate in particular, which contains antioxidants and cortisol reducing properties that are associated with high levels of stress. Snacking on dark chocolate may increase the blood flow to the brain and, in turn, boost your concentration levels.

Nuts

Not just a healthy snack, but eating a handful of almonds, walnuts or cashew nuts can help maintain a steady blood sugar level, preventing those nasty energy slumps that we are all too familiar with – giving you the energy you need to get through your busy day.

Berries

We’re heading into spring so all of those delicious berries will soon be in season.  Their high fibre content stabilises blood sugar, warding off flagging alertness and concentration.

Alive 2

Obviously, there are far more superfoods out there that can help boost your energy levels.  When looking for superfoods to enhance your alertness, one of the principal qualities to look out for is their ability to maintain a stable blood sugar level, which can be the main culprit for energy slumps.   Making sure that you stay energised throughout the day helps to keep you focused and achieve your goals

Do you find that you have better energy levels when you eat more healthily?
